Sevilla, Spain – 08/03/2011. A statement from Ecologists in Actions recalled the judicial and administrative proceedings opened against Cobre Las Cruces for alleged crimes against the environment, and has asked that the judicial authority safeguards the hydraulic management of this mining complex.

The independent hydro geologist will, according to Ecologistas, perform control work, surveillance, and monitoring of the mining facilities and the discharges to public waterways operations, both at the Gerena-Posadas aquifer and at the Garnacha, Molinos and Almendralillos streams as the Guadalquivir. This should also be part of all the monitoring assignments established between the government and the company Cobre Las Cruces, and all the reports should be incorporated to all the preliminary investigations opened by the stated court.
