Source: Terra The investigation is centered on whether the local authorities had the right to grant concessions of copper and gold mining to the previous owner, BHP Billiton, the Diario Financiero, reported on Friday, citing Pakistani media and the Embassy of Pakistan in Chile. However, the Pakistani Ambassador in Santiago and representatives of Antogafasta Minerals, one of the largest global producers of copper in Chile, were not available for comment.. The joint partnership between the Chilean Antofagasta and Barrick, the largest gold miner in the world, await for the approval of by the project by Pakistani authorities. The project is called Reko M'diq and is located in the province of Balochistan. Early estimates of the mineral resources in Reko M’diq project are at 5.9 billion tons with an average head grade of 0.41% and an average score of 0.22 grams per ton of gold.
